I’m a serious collector from the UK travelling across the US in September, looking to buy original vinyl pressings, vintage posters, books and American Design Objects, especially from the 1965-1971 era. If you’re downsizing, clearing out a collection, I’m offering cash payments and in-person pickup. Fair, hassle free and discreet.

What I’m looking for
- Original pressings of American bands and artists
- Vinyl and posters in excellent condition (VG++) or better for vinyl played on real record players with styluses not needles.
- Underground papers such as The San Francisco Oracle, The Berkeley Barb, The East Village Other (EVO), Oracle of Southern California
- Art by artists Wes Wilson, Bonnie MacLean, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, John Van Hamersveld, Gary Grimshaw, Carl Lundgren, Barbara Jones–Hogu
- Posters for venues such as Boston Tea Party, The Grande Ballroom, The Eagles Auditorium, The Fillmore, Avalon Ballroom, The Matrix, Winterland Ballroom, The Whisky a Go Go
What I’m not buying
- American Pressings of British Acts – ie Black Sabbath, The Beatles, King Crimson, Cream ect
- Hype sticker copies – I will not pay any extra for these as they’re often just pasted on as fake promos.
- Re-pressings – unless it’s re-pressed due to quality issues in the original release
- Releases after 1973, no post humus Doors or Hendrix
- Sealed Albums – if it’s sealed I will need to unseal it to confirm what it is.
- Trashed copies. I will only buy Excellent/VG++/Mint minus unless it is extremely rare
- Vinyl played on vintage portable players with needles rather then styluses. These can look unscratched but the grooves are too warn down.
- Items with mold, warped, poorly stored or moth balled.
- Condition is the most important thing.

Preserve for another lifetime
I want original pressings of US vinyl – particularly from the Monarch pressing plant.
I can help you to identify what you have and I will offer valuation for your collection if you wish to keep it or sell it yourself
I’m keen to hear your stories from back in the day and maybe interview you about your time on the scene for the site historyfrombelow.com

Why do you need American Pressings, aren’t British Pressings better?
Not always. Generally I will always want the first pressing in the Country where the album was produced. This will be the closest to the original master tape when they were in the new. The exception to this rule is the 1st Jimi Hendrix LP. The original UK edition is very poorly compiled and mastered compared to the US release.
Will you be reselling?
Getting the best pressing is hard work and generally it’s better to have multiple copies to compare, as not all pressings are equal – even in the same batch. Once the perfect copy has been found I may sell my spare copies on this site. My primary goal is to actually build a collection.
Why not just go to shops and record fairs?
I will be going to several on my travels. My goal is to buy from original owners if at all possible. It’s often that hidden gems will come out that people haven’t used in decades or considered selling.
Why don’t you just buy from eBay or Discogs?
I have been disappointed too many times and been involved with too many lengthy international returns after being sold incorrect releases or over graded vinyl. After trying to get a good Monarch 1st pressing of The Doors first album for over a year I have decided that record buying is something that needs to be done in person.
What else do you buy?
Not much but I will happily take a look at any storage units with paraphernalia from the era. If it’s something that I like I will buy it from you. I will not be interested in large or heavy items, hence records and posters are my catchment purchase on this trip
